Uhh, hi.
Some time ago, I posted that I wouldn’t try and host a server for fostering a community. The main reason being that other platforms such as Stoat and Fluxer are also based in the UK. The UK, is also very heavily pushing for more and more age regulation and ID verification laws. Not only are these laws pushed by major social media platforms that demand more and more of your personal information, they also don’t protect kids. They’re an absolute security nightmare for anyone looking to actually keep their lives private to any degree.
When I said that Fluxer was pushing ID verification because they’re based in the UK, that wasn’t the most accurate statement. Fluxer is not based in the UK.
A Brazilian friend of mine also used Fluxer, and instead of looking into why the platform has begun prohibiting him, he just assumed. He then pushed that assumption onto others. I trusted, and I believed him.
Fluxer has prohibited access to features in certain countries and a US State because those locations have laws that prevent users from verifying their own age on their own based on trust. More information below:

I guess… This is a roundabout way of saying… Fluxer has become my community of choice. I still use Discord, as my friends are there, but I’ll attempt to back away from administrating Discord and VRC communities, and focus all of my efforts on Fluxer, and on really… myself.
I’ve considered picking up Resonite too. Though, I’m heavily torn on that platform. There’s a lot of reasons to be incredibly cautious, but even VRC’s enshittification is getting to me.

So, this is interesting.
After I decided to try and establish a stronger presence on Fluxer, Discord decided to take action.
Without announcing their intentions (To be honest, this was kind of smart.) they had implemented an age verification requirement. I’ll re-iterate that these pushes are often done by social media companies. They don’t do it for the purposes of protecting children and teenagers. To double-down on this, Meta, or Facebook actually seeks more information about children by way of their Meta Quest line of products so that they can market to them, not to protect them.
Get them hooked good and early.
But, again, Discord has pushed this “teen by default” policy, again, not to protect children, but to allow for advertising. Advertising of products that isn’t allowed unless you’re above board due to common laws around the world.
Gambling has become more and more of a plague, invading our lives as our futures look more and more bleak. There’s a reason games of chance are so profitable. By attacking our hopes and dreams of ever becoming successful, adults (and children) are preyed upon. For only $8 a week, you can dream about a possibility of wealth. Maybe, because you’ll never make it big, because it feels like nobody’s in your court… You can take a chance on the odds?
Now, Discord wants you to fall into that trap. Discord wants you to waste your money so that you’re beaten down harder. All so they can make a quick buck.
Why don’t you fall for my trap instead? Create a new savings account, and set it so that every day, $1 or $5 is transferred from your chequing, to your new savings account? In my lottery, the longer you wait, the more you win.
When you open Discord, click “settings” (The gear icon next to your name on PC.) click “Data and Privacy.” Ensure all options in this category are disabled.
If more of us fight back against things like this, then the higher chances we’ll have about taking back our internet. It’s not just about you or me, It’s about everyone who wants to enjoy our time online. It’s about building connections, and exploring what we can do with the invention that changed our lives forever.
